How supervised visitation court reports work
The report is the quiet product of every supervised visit. Understanding what goes into one — and what deliberately doesn't — helps both parents relax.
What a report contains
A professional visit report records the observable facts: date, start and end times, location, who attended, whether anyone arrived late or left early, what the parent and child did together, and anything notable that occurred — a redirected conversation, an early ending, a milestone moment. Reports also note the child's observable demeanor at arrival and departure.
What a report doesn't contain
Opinions. A neutral supervisor writes "the child ran to the parent at arrival," not "the child clearly loves the parent." The difference matters enormously in court: judges trust factual observation and discount editorializing — a report full of opinions helps nobody, including the parent it seems to favor.
Who can request reports
Practice varies by provider and by order, but typically either parent's attorney, a guardian ad litem, or the court itself can request reports.
